A meme making the rounds on the internet is showing liberal lawmakers why they’ve been so wrong about anti-gun ownership legislation for years.
The state of Maryland passed a ban on the manufacture and sale of “high-capacity” magazines four years ago, and after the bill passed liberals were sure they’d ended the state’s gun crime woes.
As usual, they were wrong – very wrong, because the ban on these magazines that was inserted into the Firearms Safety Act of 2013 only lead to a dramatic increase in the criminal use of those same magazines.
What that means is that preventing normal, law-abiding citizens from owning these standard magazine only lead to a drastic increase in criminal ownership, lending credence to the old adage that when guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns.
Liberal lawmakers in Maryland must have been stunned to find out that criminals tend to not follow the laws they pass.
Gun control group The Trace reported the high-capacity magazine ban to be a total failure.
“We’re dealing with absolute criminals who want as much weaponry as possible when they’re going after targets,” said T.J. Smith, spokesman for the Baltimore Police. “They’re not carrying .22s, they’re carrying the big guns that have these high capacities.”
A high-capacity magazine is a magazine that’s capable of holding more than ten rounds at a time, and according to The Trace Baltimore police have confiscated as many as 450 guns with high-capacity magazines. The rate of gun seizures – especially ones with high-capacity magazines – is the highest it’s been in seven years.
A whopping 22 percent of all guns they confiscated had high-capacity magazines.
It seems the state’s extremely strict requirements on gun owners has done little to affect gun crime in the state, with 2015 and 2016 being the deadliest years on record for gun violence in Maryland.
